Village of East Troy Police Chief Alan Boyes is asking people to stay off the mud bed on East Troy Lake by Mill Pond Park after a local teen got stuck in the mud Monday night.
Just before 5 p.m. a call came in reporting two kids stuck in the mud, Boyes said.
When police and rescue workers arrived they found a 14-year-old East Troy boy sunk into the mud up to his chest. Firefighters were able to extract the boy and Boyes said medical attention was not needed. The teen was released to a family member at the scene. The 14-year-old was with a 16-year-old boy at the time of the incident.
“This is the second time this year this has happened,” Boyes said Monday night. “When they get stuck that deep it’s a problem because if their chest gets constricted they won’t be able to breathe.
“Mill Pond Park is great for fishing but please, stay off the mud.”
Boyes and interim Department of Public Works Director Jason Equitz discussed the possibility of putting up warning signs in the area Monday night before the Village Board meeting.
Equitz said it was probably a good idea to warn people about the condition of the lake bed.
“It looks firm because of the stuff that’s growing there, but it’s really soft,” Equitz said.
