A status conference is scheduled for June 3 for a Waukesha man charged with stealing his uncle’s safe that contained more than $10,000 cash.
Bishop K. Howard, 21, pleaded not guilty April 26 to burglary of a building or dwelling and theft of movable property valued at more than $10,000, both as a party to a crime.
According to the criminal complaint, Otto Schottlaender, of the Town of East Troy, reported his safe that contained $11,000 missing from his Highway L home on March 10. Schottlaender said he was called away to tow a disabled vehicle from Johnsburg, Ill., but wasn’t able to find the vehicle. While he was gone, his nephew said he heard a loud car in the driveway and the safe had been taken, according to the complaint.
Schottlaender suspected Howard, another nephew, took the safe because Howard had stolen from him in the past and has a vehicle with a loud exhaust, according to the complaint.
A co-worker of Howard’s mother saw Howard and another man loading a safe into a vehicle at Howard’s mother’s home, according to the complaint.
Police spoke to Kayleigh Borrman, who said she was at Howard’s mother’s house when Howard and Tyler Bemus opened a safe, according to the complaint.
