Walworth County Sheriff Kurt Picknell said in a press conference Thursday afternoon a 21-year-old man died following an officer-involved shooting in East Troy Wednesday night.
According to Picknell, a 30-year-old Walworth County Sheriff’s Deputy in uniform was assisting the Village of East Troy Police Department with a drug investigation Wednesday night in the parking lot of Roma’s Ristorante, N8416 Highway ES, East Troy. The deputy fired his service weapon after the driver of the vehicle failed to follow commands from officers at the scene.
The suspects fled officers, resulting in a high-speed chase on northbound Interstate 43 with speeds reaching more than 100 mph.
Pursuing officers conducted a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT), ending the vehicle chase in the City of Muskego, in Waukesha County.
Picknell said one of the suspects in the car, Christopher J. Davis, 21, of Milwaukee, was shot. Davis, who was transported from the Muskego crash scene, was later pronounced dead at a Milwaukee-area hospital.
Picknell said two other suspects were located after fleeing the crash scene and are being held in the Waukesha County Jail. Their names are not being released at this time.
He said the deputy in question has been placed on administrative duty, inline with the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office’s policy. The deputy has been a full-time Deputy Sheriff in Walworth County since May 2012 and has seven years of police experience.
Picknell said Thursday afternoon the Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation, is handling the investigation at this time. Picknell said there is still a lot of information the Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating and declined to answer questions at this time.
