Sheriff’s Department releases names of victims
The Walworth County Sheriff’s Office has released the names of the two people killed in the Jan. 23 car crash on Highway 120 just south of Highway 11 in the Town of Spring Prairie. They are Elizabeth Wolfson, 51, of Shorewood, and Volodymyr Khlopetskyy, 30, of Chicago.
According to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office, the initial investigation shows Khlopetskyy was southbound on Highway 120 at about 7:50 p.m. Saturday night when his car missed a curve and hit the northbound car driven by David Laur, 50, of Glendale, which Wolfson was a passenger in.
There were a total of five people in both cars and all subjects were critically injured and taken to area hospitals, according to the press release.
The two passengers in Khlopetskyy’s car were Mariana Lompas, 21, and Roksolana Bubniak, both of Chicago. According to the release, they are still in critical condition as is Laur.
Officials with the Sheriff’s Department said alcohol and speed appear to be factors in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation at this time by the Walworth County Crash Investigation Team. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Wisconsin State Patrol, Flight for Life, Town of Lyons Fire/Rescue, Paratech Ambulance service, Elkhorn Fire/Rescue, East Troy Rescue and the Walworth County Medical Examiner.
