While the Spring 2016 General Election might seem a long way off, candidates interested in running for office can start circulating nomination papers on Dec. 1.
The spring election will be April 5, 2016. Should a primary election be needed, it will be on Feb. 16, 2016.
Elected officials who choose not to run for re-election in April should file their notification of non-candidacy with the appropriate municipality/school district by 5 p.m. on Dec. 28.
Candidate registration statements, declaration of candidacy and nomination papers must be filed by 5 p.m. on Jan. 5, 2016.
Ballot position drawings will be announced when they are set.
Village of East Troy
There are three East Troy Village Board seats up for election in April held by trustees Linda Kaplan, Fortune “Forty” Renucci and Ann Zess. Village Board terms are for two years.
The position of municipal judge will also be on the April ballot. Judge Michael P. Cotter is the municipal judge in the village. This is a four-year term.

School Board
The East Troy Community School District will have three School Board seats on the ballot. Those seats are held by board President Ted Zess, Vice-president Dawn Buchholtz and member Mike Zei.
School Board terms are for three years. However, because of a mix up during the April 2015 election, two of the board seats are for the full three-year terms and one of the seats is for a two-year team, to fill out the remainder of the term Zei was appointed to earlier this year.
Zei was appointed to the School Board seat after a drawn out board battle over who should be appointed to the seat after it was discovered that Brian Wexler’s Feb. 23 appointment officially ended April 21 because the School District had lost track of who was serving out which terms due to several resignations and appointments over the past three years.
The School Board members finally came to a consensus and appointed Zei when it was discovered the district couldn’t finance the referendum bond without officers, which the board had also been unable to appoint.
To rectify the situation, there will be three School Board seats on the ballot. The top two vote getters in the election will fill the three-year terms and the third top vote getter will fill the two-year term.

Town of Troy
Although there are no municipal seats up for election in the Town of Troy, Clerk-Treasurer Tracey Raymond said the Town Board is considering making the position of clerk-treasurer an elected one instead of an appointed one like it is now.
Raymond said the board will be taking the matter up at a future meeting, probably in December.
Town of East Troy
Town of East Tory Clerk-Treasurer Kim Buchanan said there were no township municipal elections on the April ballot.
