When it came time for the East Troy High School drama students to choose a fall musical, it wasn’t a difficult task to pick one.
“This group in particular seems to really follow the Disney movies, so ‘Cinderella’ was a good fit,” director Deb Williamson said. “It’s also relevant because the movie was recently re-released by Disney.
“The kids are having a lot of fun with this,” she continued. “They know the music and the story and they’re really excited.”
Williamson said the story of a beaten down stepdaughter/stepsister overcoming adversity and finding her happy ending is a universal theme everyone can relate to.
“Cinderella has always been my favorite,” Grace Christiansen, who plays the lead character, said. “She’s my favorite princess and to be able to play her like this has been so much fun.”
Cast mate Teagan Oxley-Hase, who plays the Stepmother said she’s been enjoying playing someone ‘evil’ for a change.
“It’s kind of fun to be intimidating,” she said.
And Kelli Larsen, who plays the Fairy Godmother, has been enjoying the physical aspects of her character and how it adds something special to the role.
“Being able to jump and move around has been a lot of fun,” Larsen said. “I get to make all the magic happen.”
