Local businesses provide donation box, sign
Helping Hands of St. Peter’s Catholic Church recently benefited from the addition of a box for clothing donations.
The box was built and donated by local manufacturer Wisconsin Oven Corp. and has been placed outside of the Clothing Center, 1970 Beulah Ave. The signage was donated by Scott Iloncaie of Dynamic Awards.
“It is our pleasure to ‘Pay It Forward’ in our community and to contribute to the success of Helping Hand’s mission,” Wisconsin Oven CEO David Strand said.
The Clothing Center began more than 30 years ago as a means to provide clothing for children living with foster families in the East Troy area. Items were stored in the basement of Dr. Armin Nyffeler’s dental practice.
When more space was needed, the move was made to the building on Beulah Avenue. Constructed in 1874 by St. Peter’s Catholic Church, the building was originally a one-room schoolhouse, with the second story housing the nuns who taught at the school.
After being affiliated for a long time with the St. Vincent de Paul Society, a decision was made several years ago to operate independently and become Helping Hands of St. Peter’s. The Clothing Center relies exclusively on donations of items.
The store is open to the public. Items are reasonably priced, with clothing and shoe sizes ranging from newborn through adult. Proceeds are used to help individuals and families who live in the East Troy Community School District with financial needs, such as rent, utilities and groceries.
The center is staffed by volunteers and open Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. to noon.
