Looking forward to the challenge

Village Board president to begin work on special projects this month

The East Troy Village Board approved the job description for board President Randy Timms’ new duties as special project coordinator Monday night.

The position, which the board approved on July 28, 2014, was suggested by Timms last summer, when he was looking at retiring from his job and wanted to take on some of the special projects in the village that had been set aside because there wasn’t enough manpower to accomplish them.

The added responsibilities come with an additional $8,000 a year for Timms in salary.

The job description, reads, in part: “The purpose of this position is to assist in the identification of areas within the scope of the Village of East Troy that may benefit from added effort. The President will identify areas where he can contribute to improve systems/programs either operationally or financially. In order to increase opportunities, the President will interact with the ETCDA, Chamber of Commerce, WCEDA and other groups as available in an ongoing effort to promote and encourage improvement and/or growth in all areas.”

The official job description also calls for Timms to give the board monthly summaries of what he’s doing and more detailed quarterly reports, which were requested by some of the board members in place of the quarterly reports Timms had originally put in the job description he submitted to the board Monday.

“The only thing I’m not comfortable with is the quarterly reports,” Trustee Dusty Stanford said. “I think we’re going to want more – a monthly update and quarterly written report.”

“I’m with Dusty,” Trustee Chris Gultch said. “I think a monthly meeting summary and written quarterly detailed reports. I want the details.”

There was some discussion as to how much detail Timms would be able to give when certain projects were in the preliminary planning stages and the business/individual wasn’t ready to go public with the information.

“No matter what, the president of the board always gets information he may not be able to disseminate to the board immediately,” Stanford said. “It’s his job to do the discovery to determine if it’s real and if it’s real, he brings it back to the board to discuss.”

Trustee Forty Renucci, who voted against the new position for Timms last July, had some questions about the actual scope of the job, calling the description “a little vague” but acknowledging it really couldn’t be more specific because of the nature of the position.

Renucci voted against approving the job description Monday night.

Other business

In other business, the Village Board:

  • Approved the purchase of a lift gate at a cost of $3,250. The gate was requested by Department of Public Works Director Mike Miller for safety purposes. Miller wrote in his memo to the board the gate would reduce possible accidents when lifting equipment or supplies into vehicles.
  • Heard the 2014 end of year annual audit presentation from accountants Johnson Block & Co. Inc.
