A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 26 for an Elkhorn man, now incarcerated in Plymouth, charged with beating up his girlfriend and pushing her daughter.
Charles M. Newman, 47, was charged Dec. 3 in Walworth County Circuit Court with two counts of felony intimidation of a witness; and misdemeanor battery, criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct, all with domestic abuse assessments.
According to the criminal complaint, Newman’s live-in girlfriend confronted him about drinking at the Silver Lake Inn in the Town of Sugar Creek on Nov. 19, 2013. The couple argued, and Newman slapped the woman in the face and was then thrown out of the bar.
The woman drove to the couple’s Park Drive home, and passed Newman, who was walking to the residence, according to the complaint. When the woman got out of the car at the home, Newman allegedly grabbed her, punched her in the face several times, slammed her against the hood of the car and then kicked her in the mouth after she fell to the ground.
When the woman’s daughter tried to call 911, Newman allegedly grabbed the cell phone from the daughter and threw it on the floor, causing it to break. When the daughter started to dial 911 again, Newman allegedly grabbed the daughter and pushed her into a wall.
