St. Paul’s Lutheran School fifth and sixth graders from Miriam Holm’s class took a walking field trip to the East Troy historic village square in September. The class referenced “Memories Around the Square,” an East Troy Area Historical Society publication, as they viewed each building. Several businesses invited the class inside to see restored furnishings and learn more about the history of the building. A rope operated elevator, backstage walls signed by celebrities, original tin ceilings, and a stagecoach stopping station were some of the areas explored. The students gained a greater respect for the history of the square and how it came to be what they know today. Art class was enhanced as they painted wooden blocks to resemble the buildings on the square upon returning to school. They will be on display at the East Troy Village Hall.
