The College Board recently recognized several East Troy High School students, who earned Advanced Placement Scholar Awards on the basis of their academic performance on AP exams.
Eighty East Troy High School students took 135 AP exams in May and 12 earned special recognition from the College Board.
“I am very pleased with our students’ performance on the AP exams,” High School Principal Rick Penniston said. “Our students and teachers have worked very hard to demonstrate this high level of achievement. I am also very happy with the high number of students who are challenging themselves with AP coursework and testing.”
AP Scholar Award recipients include: Nicole Barr, Laura Drake, McKenna Farmer, Annie Heffernan, Claire Loth, Hollyann Schultz, Jonathon Woods and Joseph Zess.
Students who receive the AP Scholar Award earned scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams taken throughout high school.
Kai Bottum, Abigail Goode and Shauna Jacobs received the AP Scholar Honor Award, which recognizes students who have earned an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams.
The AP Scholar with Distinction award was bestowed upon Riley Reuter. This award is granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.
Of the 80 students who took exams, 81.3 percent earned scores of three or higher, which is another five year high for the high school. Earning a score of three or higher offers students an opportunity to earn college level credit, skip introductory college level courses or both, depending on which college/university the student plans to attend, Penniston said.
East Troy High School offers AP courses in English, math, science, social studies and world languages. Two new AP courses will be added for the 2014-15 school year – statistics and psychology.
