Making the grade

East Troy Community Schools ‘meet and exceed’ expectations

The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction released school report cards last week for each public school and district in the state. The report cards are intended to create a more standardized methodology for parents and community members to determine the effectiveness of their local schools.

They include outcomes in four priority areas.

Student achievement measures the level of knowledge and skills in reading and mathematics among students in the district and each school, compared to the state and national standards.

Student growth describes how much student knowledge of reading and mathematics has changed from year to year at the district level and each school level.

Closing gaps assesses each school’s improvements in the performance of student target groups to the rate of improvement of the state comparison group in achievement and graduation rates.

On-track to graduation and postsecondary readiness indicates the success of students at a school in achieving educational milestones that predict postsecondary success.

Based on combined scores for these four areas, East Troy Middle School met expectations, while Prairie View Elementary School, East Troy High School, and the district have exceeded expectations.

It is important to note, Doubek Elementary School as a PK-1 school is not given a score because of lack of data points and not enough students for accountability determinations. However, please know the East Troy Community School District utilizes other data points to monitor student growth and attainment of the Doubek Elementary students.

“Overall, I am very pleased with our results,” said Superintendent Dr. Chris Hibner. “The report cards suggest that the East Troy Community Schools is truly an outstanding district.

“That being said, while we have much to celebrate from the report card to our vast array of accomplishments throughout our district, we realize the absolute importance of continuous improvement. We know that mediocrity, not failure, is the surest way to prevent success,” continued Hibner.

“Therefore, we will continue to work on our initiatives within each of the key facets of student achievement, quality professional staff, technology, facilities, community engagement and operations toward meeting and exceeding our district goals in order to prepare students for finding success in an ever-changing global landscape.”
