A developer recently took a step forward to add 24 more homes to the existing 24 homes along Arbor Ridge Drive in the City of Delavan in the Lake Meadows Subdivision. The Common Council approved a preliminary plat request for the development on Oct. 19.
Residents of Arbor Ridge Drive were given the first opportunity to speak during public comments. Four people who live on the street opposed the development for various reasons, including: traffic concerns on the dead-end street, a possible negative impact on taxes and concerns about the changes that will come with doubling the size of the neighborhood – which is quiet and filled with wildlife – and would like the green space preserved.
John Sorenson, president of U.S. Shelter Homes, responded to some of those concerns. He said U.S. Shelter Homes is the contract purchaser of the property, which was purchased from a group of people who live on Arbor Ridge Drive. Mayor Ryan Schroeder later explained that the group of neighbors invested in the property so they could control what type of development eventually went in there.
The Lake Meadows subdivision was initially designed as a group development with more homes to be built then those currently there, according to Director of Public Works Mark Wendorf. He said as a result, the infrastructure is there to handle the proposed 24 new homes.
Sorenson said the plans for the new Arbor Ridge Estates have been in the works for a while and he had not heard any concerns before the meeting.
