Town of Delavan police officer Stefanie Adams was honored at a recent Town Board meeting for her promotion to captain by Police Chief Raymond Clark. Adams was sworn in by clerk Kristy McKristy. Her husband, Josh, who is a K-9 handler for the Walworth County Sheriff Department, pinned on her new badge.
“You have a very good police department,” Clark told the crowd at the Aug. 17 meeting. “We have very good members here and they stay here. We have an awesome town and most of my (department) members live in the town and enjoy it as well.”
Clark said Adams is replacing an officer who retired after 32 years of service and selecting her was not a difficult decision for him to make.
Adams showed her interest in law enforcement at a young age by joining the Walworth County Police Explorers. She later worked as a dispatcher for the City of Delavan Police Department, a booking officer for the Lake Geneva Police Department and a part-time police officer for the Village of Darien Police Department. She was hired as a part-time officer by the Town of Delavan in January of 2002 and was promoted to full-time in June of that same year.
Adams has attended numerous training schools including professional communications instructor, field training officer, hostage negotiations, basic SWAT and leadership in police organizations.
She has served the Town of Delavan as a field training officer and is a member of the Walworth County Metro SWAT team as a negotiator. Adams was promoted to sergeant in 2015 and was placed in charge of the second and third shift patrol. She has also been the coordinator of the field training program.
“Captain Adams’ dedication, innovation and knowledge throughout her career has been an asset to the Town of Delavan Police Department,” Clark said in a memo to the board.
“I am certain that she will excel in this new position and continue to assist in shaping the police department for years to come,” he said.
