The Delavan Common Council approved the annexation of 273 acres of land along the north side of State Highway 50, the south side of Mound Road and the west side of County Highway F in the Town of Delavan on July 20.
The owner of the farmland, Gregg Kunes, petitioned the city for annexation. The property is contiguous with the current city limits and a city water main extends the highway frontages of the property. Existing city sewer mains along the west side of the property also were sized to provide service capacity to the property. The lone person who lives on part of the property agreed with the annexation.
Delavan’s Director of Public Works, Mark Wendorf, said in a memo to the council that the annexation would be consistent with the city’s comprehensive plan as the area has been identified in the plan as a future growth area for the city.
Wendorf also said the parcel is on the city’s side of the “line of demarcation” that was established in a boundary agreement with the Town of Delavan in 2016.
Mayor Ryan Schroeder noted the property does not include the parcel Shodeen plans to develop in the Town of Delavan.
Schroeder said Kunes has not yet submitted plans to the city for the property. Kunes could not be reached by press time for this story.
According to the petition, the annexation is necessary for the property to be developed as a mixed-use development that could include residential, commercial/industrial, and recreational uses.
