Delavan Park and Rec to hold Downhill Derby

The City of Delavan Parks and Recreation is gearing up for its first ever Downhill Derby Race. Participants will compete in their appropriate age division with the opportunity for the top three places to receive a trophy or medal.

Races will be held Saturday, July 24, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., depending on the number of entries. Race times will be given out the week after the registration deadline, which is Friday, July 9. Participants are asked to arrive an hour before race time starts for a pre-race inspection and race overview.

Concessions will be available by the American Legion at the cantina and at the Lion’s Shelter by the City’s Police Department.

Here is a breakdown of where related events will take place: pre-race day inspection will take place at the Mill Pond parking lot in Veterans Park; the check-in/staging area will be on McDowell by

Veterans Park playground; races will be held on Terrace Street.

Divisions are as follows:

Divisions: Compact Class, ages 8 to 9; Midsize Class, ages 10 to 11; large class, ages 12 to 13; adult class, ages 14 and older (must build your own car to participate in adult class.)

Fees are: $25 per resident driver; $35 per non-resident driver; $65 per resident wheel kit; $91 non-resident wheel kit (if building your own, includes one free race entry.)
