A Greenfield man charged with breaking into a Town of Delavan home along with another man with guns and robbing the residents was sentenced to 28 years in prison and 28 years extended supervision.
Bradley J. Hohner, 26, pleaded guilty Aug. 4 in Walworth County Circuit Court to armed robbery, burglary, impersonating a peace officer and first-degree recklessly endangering safety. In exchange, two counts of false imprisonment, attempting to flee or elude an officer and possession of a firearm by a felon against him were dismissed.
He was sentenced Oct. 23 to 10 years in prison and 10 years extended supervision each on the armed robbery and burglary charges. The sentences are to run concurrently. He was sentenced to three years in prison and three years extended supervision for impersonating a peace officer and five years in prison and five years extended supervision on the endangerment charge. The three-year sentences are to run concurrently with the other sentences while the five-year sentences are to run consecutively.
According to the criminal complaint, two men with their faces covered, one of whom was wearing a badge, forced entry into a Schroeder Avenue home in the Town of Delavan at about 11:10 p.m. May 22 using a battering ram. Each of the men had a black handgun, told the occupants of the home they were narcotics officers and demanded money, according to the complaint.
The men told a 40-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman in the home to get on the floor and secured the man’s hands behind his back with a zip-tie, according to the complaint. The men went into an upstairs bedroom occupied by a 16-year-old boy and two 19-year-olds and asked for money, according to the complaint. The 16-year-old gave the man an unknown amount of money he had on him, and one of the 19-year-old men gave them a little more than $1,000 he had, the complaint states. The men also bound the 19-year-old man and continued to demand money, according to the complaint.
Before the men left the house, one of them pointed a gun at the 40-year-old man, who heard a gunshot near the front door of the home, according to the complaint.
An officer saw a vehicle driving away from the area at a high rate of speed with no headlights on and pursued the car, according to the complaint. The car travelled on Highway F at a high rate of speed, passing vehicles into oncoming traffic and ran a stop sign at Highway F and Highway 11, the complaint states.
The chase continued into Elkhorn where police deployed stop sticks and were able to disable the vehicle near Matheson Memorial Library, according to the complaint. Both suspects fled on foot, and officers were able to apprehend Hohner but not the driver, the complaint states.
In the car, police found a loaded handgun, a bag of marijuana and $7,000 in cash.
