Two businesses – Boxed and Burlap and JD Environmental – were recognized by the Town of Delavan board recently for their contributions to the town. The owners of both businesses were presented certificates.
John Neighbors, owner of Boxed and Burlap, was recognized for allowing the town to use his business as a polling place on Nov. 3. The town usually conducts voting at the Community Park building, but that structure was under construction as the town renovates it into what will be called the Water’s Edge.
The Town Hall was deemed too small to hold a presidential election during a pandemic, so Neighbors offered his business. That allowed the town to conduct the election with sufficient social distancing.
Jamie Branton, owner of JD Environmental, will remove asbestos from the current fire station before it’s torn down at no cost to the township. The town is in the process of building a new station right next to the current one on Town Hall Road.
Branton said the town fire department responded to a fire at his business. Though he did suffer some losses, he thanked the department for its response.
