Scarecrow Fest returns to downtown Delavan

Family friendly event features Scarecrow Walk, free activities

The 20th annual Scarecrow Fest is a community-wide, family-oriented event that will feature scarecrows and free activities throughout historic downtown Delavan.

Festival will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, and is the kick-off to the fall season with harvest themed events and activities.

With free admission, free parking, food and beverage, and exciting prizes, the Scarecrow Fest is guaranteed to provide good old-fashioned family fun.

Scarecrow Fest begins with opening remarks from Alice in Dairyland, followed event activities including children’s take-home crafts, free pumpkins, photo opportunities, classic car show, sidewalk sales, food trucks, live performances by Johnny B and the Sawdust Symphony Band, and of course the Delavan Scarecrow Walk lining downtown.

Attendees can also embark on self-guided tours of the downtown WallDog Murals or partake in two guided tours with Mayor Ryan Schroder at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

As always children can take home a free pumpkin courtesy of the Delavan-Delavan Lake Area Chamber of Commerce and families can purchase DIY Scarecrow kits to go.

Scarecrow Walk

Stroll the brick street and meet Scarecrows designed by community members, businesses, and organizations. During the entire month of September, the Delavan Scarecrow Walk will greet visitors to downtown Delavan.

All scarecrows will be tagged and ballots will be available for the public to vote for their favorite scarecrow. Prizes will be awarded to the scarecrow artists who receive the most votes.

Scarecrow crafters can go the DIY route or scarecrow kits and entry forms are available at the Delavan-Delavan Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, 52 E. Walworth Ave., Delavan, or the Walworth County Visitors Bureau, 2375 E. Geneva St., Delavan.

The kits are $15 each, which includes the entry fee for the contest. The entry fee without a kit is $5 per scarecrow. For more information, contact Katie Chapman of Delavan Connect Communities at 262-728-5095 or [email protected].
