The Delavan-Darien School Board decided not to video record or live stream its meetings on Monday night. The overall cost versus the expected low usage of the service was the deciding factor for the board.
The issue came up during the June board meeting in response to interest expressed by a parent group called Comets Community in Action in having meetings recorded or live streamed. Members of that group told the board that they cannot always attend meetings in person and it would be nice to still be able to view the meetings at home.
The board decided to take no action last month but asked for more information from Director of Technology Brandon Curless. Among his research was an attempt to find out how many other districts in the state currently record or live stream their board meetings.
Last month Curless had data from the districts that chose to respond to a request for it on a particular service. Prior to this month’s meeting, Culress had directly emailed all the districts in the state and 318 responded.
