Man shot ex-girlfriend’s brother before killing her and then himself
Delavan police issued an update this morning about the incident in Darien on Monday night that resulted in the deaths of two people and a third person being injured.
Authorities have determined the suspect, Casey DePriest, 29, had lived at 452 Buckingham Ct. in Darien with his former girlfriend, Jenna Brovold, 29, prior to their relationship recently ending. On Monday, according to police, DePriest went to the home on Buckingham Court and killed Brovold prior to committing suicide.
DePriest also shot and injured Jenna Brovold’s brother, Evan Brovold, 26. Evan Brovold, who according to earlier reports was shot in the shoulder, has since been released from the hospital and is recovering from his injuries, according to police.
“We have determined what has occurred. What will take time is why it took place,” the release from the City of Delavan Police Department states. The city also polices the Village of Darien.
“It will be months before the police department will receive official results of the autopsies, forensic examination of all electronic devices are completed, and investigative reports are submitted,” the release states, adding that no further information will be released until the investigation is complete.
The incident reportedly began around 6 p.m., May 13 when police and deputies responded to a report of a shooting.
Authorities evacuated the neighborhood and attempted to negotiate with a subject inside the home, until SWAT entered the home and later conducted a search.
Law enforcement was on the scene until about 4 a.m., Tuesday.
Numerous agencies assisted including Darien and Sharon fire and rescue departments, Town of Delavan, City of Lake Geneva, Walworth, Kenosha and Racine counties sheriff’s offices, the state Department of Justice and the FBI.
“We again wish to thank all our partners in law enforcement, fire, and rescue who assisted with serving the community of Darien,” the release states. “Our thoughts remain with the affected families.”
