Sue Kitzman and her cookies will be missed, coworkers say

Sue Kitzman is retiring as City of Delavan clerk on Jan. 11. The Common Council appointed her replacement on Dec. 18 and Andrea White will tale over the position on Jan. 12.
“Sue has been a dedicated servant for the City of Delavan for the past 35 years and she will be greatly missed,” Mayor Mel Nieuwenhuis said. “She leaves a huge void and our next clerk will have some big shoes to fill.”
Nieuwenhuis said it has been a privilege to work with Kitzman for 20 years and she has always been a consummate professional.
“More than that,” Nieuwenhuis said, “when you work with someone for that many years, it becomes more like family and friendship, which is what is most important.”
Nieuwenhuis said he is happy for Kutzman but will miss, among other things, her chocolate chip cookies.
Kitzman has worked for the city for just short of 36 years and started as clerk in 1998. She also served as the Clerk of Courts for the Town of Delavan for 30 years.
She said working for the city has been wonderful and she will miss the people most, her co-workers and the public, as well as election days.
Kitzman said she loves elections, though she admitted they can be challenging. She said the statewide voting system can be pretty complicated and can create a lot of work.
“I love election day,” she said. “It is an open house that I don’t have to dust for – I get to see all sorts of people.”
