Author Mark Hertzberg will present an illustrated talk about “Penwern,” Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fred B. Jones estate on Delavan Lake at 7 p.m. Sept. 21 at the Walworth County Historical Society’s Heritage Hall, 9 E. Rockwell St., Elkhorn.
Hertzberg, the author of three books about Wright’s work in Racine, has been commissioned to write a book about Jones and Penwern. It will be published in spring 2019 by the Wisconsin Historical Society Press. The book is based on four years of extensive primary-source research in Illinois, New York and Wisconsin including visits to Jones’ hometown of Pittsfield, Ill. Hertzberg has interviewed one of Wright’s cousins and the stewards of Penwern since 1938 or their descendants.
The presentation includes Wright’s drawings and historic and contemporary photos. Hertzberg was a photojournalist for the Racine Journal Times for 33 years.
The talk is jointly sponsored by Walworth County and Delavan Historical Societies. Admission is free, but contributions are welcomed.
Heritage Hall is on the corner of East Rockwell and South Washington streets. For more information, visit walcohistory.org or delavanhistory.org.
