Delavan’s Memorial Day observance will begin with a parade followed by a ceremony in Spring Grove Cemetery.
The parade will begin at 9 a.m. at Main Street and Walworth Avenue, proceed east down Walworth Avenue, and then go north on North Seventh Street into Spring Grove Cemetery for the ceremony.
At the ceremony, the Delavan-Darien high School band under the direction of Nick Stark will play a prelude, Lt. Col. John Loomer will serve as master of ceremonies, and the Rev. Gary Sisk, of Harvest Point Church, will give an invocation.
Ray Woods will lead the Pledge of Allegiance, the D-DHS band will play the national anthem, and Navy veteran Jim Hansen, assistant chief of the Delavan Police Department, will be the speaker.
Robert Scott will give the roll call of deceased veterans, and American Legion Auxiliary President Connie Lindloff will present the poppy princess, Sophia Hiemstra.
Wreath presentations will be conducted by Lindloff and Brian Buzzell and the Daughters of the Union Veterans of the Civil War, Mary Chesebro Lee Detached Tent No. 23. Loomer will give concluding remarks, a firing squad will give a rifle salute and D-DHS buglers Xander Rosencrans and Cole Castel will play taps.
Special services will take place after the ceremony at Old Settlers, Roselawn and East Delavan cemeteries.
