The Darien Village Board approved a certified survey map Dec. 21 for the Kolnik Trucking property at 508 Madison St. The approved map is part of a project to put an addition on the existing building.
Village Administrator Rebecca Houseman LeMire said Kolnik Trucking has already received approval for a certified survey map to acquire some land owned by the Schultz family west of its property for the expansion. The action was required so the building with the new addition could meet the village’s open green space zoning requirement.
The map approved Dec. 21 added more land purchased from Fettig Industries that will allow Kolnik to access new dock doors on the west side of the addition from Madison Road. LeMire said Kolnik had already secured permission from the previous land owner to put in a temporary gravel “tracking pad” to bring in building materials on.
Board President Kurt Zipp said Kolnik will put in a four-foot high berm on the north side of the property to prevent any lights from shining into the existing neighboring house and a row of trees on the west side because the home owners thought that would be more aesthetically pleasing. Zipp said the berm will help direct storm water drain where it needs to go.
The map was approved with the conditions that the owner file the map with the county and provide copies to the village.
Village hires auditor
The board approved hiring Patrick Romenesko S.C. to audit village 2015 financial statements, a yearly process, in the amount of $20,000. LeMire said $10,000 of that amount is for utility funds and is the same amount as last year. The other $10,000 is for the general fund. That audit cost $9,000 last year. LeMire said the increase was because of additional work that must be done for new pension reporting standards.
