Mural artists out to leave their mark on city

National and international artists are busy in and around downtown Delavan this week painting 18 murals on buildings during the Delavan Walldog event – The Greatest Walls on Earth, which lasts until Sunday.
Visitors can tour the downtown to see the following themed murals in progress on the buildings listed below or on panels that will later be moved to buildings outside of the downtown.
The numbers correspond to the locations on the map below. Listed are the themes of the murals followed by the buildings on which they’re being painted:
1) Founders and Temperance Beginnings – Delavan-Delavan Lake Chamber of Commerce, 52 E. Walworth Ave.
5) Tribute to the Military – American Legion Hall, 111 S. Second St.;
6) Rodriguez Brothers Potato Farm – Hair Techniques, 137 Park Place;
7) Art Colony – the former Delavan House Hotel, 215 W. Walworth Ave.
8) Early Industry – the Delavan Fitness Center, 114 N. Third St.
9) Van Velzer Cigar Co. –the Carriage House by the parking lot in the 300 block of McDowell Street by the drive-by post office drop box
10) Red Devils – Remember When, 313 E. Walworth Ave.
11) Birthplace of the P.T. Barnum Circus – J&M Trading and Music, 302 E. Walworth Ave.
12) Circus Stamp and Gordon Yadon – Post Office, 335 E. Walworth Ave. This mural will be painted on panels that will already be attached to the building.
13) Frank Lloyd Wright and E. Townsend Mix – The River Church, 405 E. Walworth Ave.
15) Wisconsin School for the Deaf – Family Dollar, 416 E. Walworth Ave. This mural also be painted on panels already attached to the store by the Aram Public Library.
16) Muster Tree and Train Depot – Jet Wash, 223 S. Seventh St.
The following murals will be painted on panels in other locations and later moved to the buildings where they’ll be hung. Listed are the themes of the murals, locations where they’ll be painted and buildings on which they’ll be hung:
2) Elmer Gauger, Sign Painter – China Garden, 136 E. Walworth Ave. This mural was painted and hung up as a preview before the event began.
3) Delavan Lake Steam Ships and Resorts – Phoenix Park, Reed’s Marine, 174 Highway 50
4) Big Band and Ballrooms – Phoenix Park, Lake Lawn Resort, 2400 E. Geneva St.
14) Kids Wall – in front of Aram Public Library, 404 E. Walworth Ave., Wileman Elementary School, 1001 E. Geneva St.
17) Borg-Gibbs-Bradley World War II products and war years – in the grassy area by the parking lot on Highway 50 by the Brad Liddle Safety Building, 230 S. Seventh St., Delavan Fire Department, 811 Ann St.
18) Eat’n Time – in the grassy area next to the former fire station, Noble Insurance, 217 S. Seventh St., on the old Doyon & Rayne building.
