Town of Delavan expanding fire protection to Walworth, Fontana

The Town of Delavan board approved an intergovernmental agreement with the Village of Fontana and the Town of Walworth that will expand the service area of the town’s fire and EMS service on April 15.

The board discussed the agreement in February. According to the agreement, the Town of Walworth will pay the Town of Delavan $35,000 up front for the town to take over the fire and rescue services in an area the Town of Walworth needs help with. If it is determined by the Town of Delavan at the end of the year that the number of calls in that area cost the town more than $35,000 to respond to, the Town of Walworth will make up the difference.

The Town of Delavan Fire Department will provide full fire and EMS coverage to a portion of the Town of Walworth and an additional provider of fire services to an additional portion of the Town of Walworth along with the Village of Fontana Fire Department.

The Town of Walworth had previously been part of the Darien Fire Department along with the Village of Walworth, the Village and Town of Sharon, and the Town and Village of Darien. A failed referendum to cover the cost of that agreement led the Town of Walworth to seek alternatives.
