Recap of Tuesday’s election results

Several referendums were on Tuesday’s ballot, with a school referendum in Whitewater passing, while Elkhorn’s failed.

Whitewater Unified School District, with all votes in from Walworth, Rock and Jefferson County, passed its referendum with 3,012 “yes” votes and 2,755 “no” votes.

Elkhorn’s, meanwhile, failed, with 4,057 “no” votes and 3,446 “yes” votes.

Whitewater’s referendum was for $30 million in general bond issuance for improvements, while EASD’s was an operating referendum for $4 million a year for four years.

The City of Whitewater municipal referendum – for $1.3 million to increase police staffing by five officers, one dispatcher, two cross-trained firefighters/EMTs and necessary equipment – passed, 1,577 to 1,309.

Meanwhile, the Village of Walworth referendum allowing for an initial increase of $734,433 for one year and then $350,000 each fiscal year going forward failed, 838 “no” votes to 228 “yes” votes.

The Village of Williams Bay referendum, for $399,980 for two additional police officers and their resources, passed 841 to 741.

A quick summary of various contested races:

  • For Delavan-Darien School Board, incumbents Tiffany Schutt (2,714) and Kevin Hermann (2,594) won re-election over challenger Erick Huerta (2,115).
  • For Elkhorn Area School Board, Bridget Leahy Vaughn (3,934) and Ed Scaro (3,622, incumbent) earned seats over Devin Gatton (2,355).
  • For the Walworth Joint No. 1 School District, elected to the board were Cody Brugger (687) and Suzanne Zillmer (677), over Tracey Scott (547).
  • For the Whitewater Unified School District Board, Jennifer Kienbaum (2,553) and Miguel Aranda (2,541) earned enough votes for re-election, defeating challengers Nick Baldwin (2,488) and Wayne Redenius (2,079).
  • In Williams Bay, Adam Jaramillo narrowly defeated James D’Alessandro for village president, 783 to 744.

In the race for three spots on the Village Board, Susan Franzen (741), George Vlach (731) and Mary Bartholomew (702) earned election.
