Second fire in a month at Darien property

Late in the afternoon last Thursday, Darien Fire/EMS was dispatched to a report of structure fire with flames and smoke visible at N2886 North Rd. in the Township of Darien, according to a press release from officials.

Automatic mutual aid response was dispatched at the same time – at about 4:45 p.m., Thursday, March 27 – from Sharon, the City of Delavan and the Town of Delavan.

Those arriving first on scene reported a fully engulfed farm shed with multiple exposures so a decision was quickly made to activate mutual aid to the second alarm.

It was eventually escalated to the fifth alarm and mutual aid response was impacted due to neighboring crews assisting at a large fire in Rock County at the same time.

Two firefighters were injured at the scene of the fire, the release states, both of whom were treated and released from the hospital.

Fire officials reported that their attack was limited to defensive mode due to the condition of the property and wind speed as well as a threat of a wild land fire being sparked.

“Immediately following arrival, the fire spread to a vacant home which was damaged due to a previous fire on January 27, 2025 and several other large wooden farm structures,” officials stated in the release. “Embers did cause the fire to spread to a nearby property causing damage to two vehicles and was quickly contained.”

Firefighters had the fire under control in less than an hour, according to the release, and responding crews began being released from the scene.

The cause and origin of the fire are undetermined with Darien Fire/EMS and other assisting agencies conducting an investigation.

“We are grateful to our assisting agencies from Walworth, Rock, Jefferson, Waukesha, Boone, Winnebago and McHenry counties for their response,” officials stated. “Additionally, we thank Liebsle Excavating for their timely response.”
