With a little old and a little new, the holiday season is ready to begin this weekend in the City of Elkhorn.
With Uncle Hunk’s Junk Park in the process of its renovations, the annual Christmas Card Parade and Let It Glow event will have the community busy.
Let It Glow runs Friday through Sunday at the park, which is next to the Elkhorn Area Chamber of Commerce at 203 E. Walworth St.
The official tree-lighting ceremony will be Friday at 5:30 p.m., and the annual Christmas Card parade is Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
Let It Glow is open from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, noon to 8 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.
It will also feature Santa Claus until 9 p.m. Friday, from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday.
“It’s an honor to help carry on the tradition of hosting the Christmas Card Town Parade,” said Chamber Executive Director Chris Clapper. “We love seeing the excitement of the children (and the adults) who come to see the floats, race for candy and of course see Santa Claus.”
This is the 43rd year of the parade, which celebrates Elkhorn’s tradition of producing Christmas cards, now painted by T. James Carson.
This year’s card is titled, “A Holiday Stay at Camp Wandawega,” featuring a snowy cabin in the woods decorated for the holidays.
New this year for the Let It Glow event:
- North Pole Pop N Shop at the Elkhorn Chamber, featuring shopping ideas to compliment the downtown retail locations and a community wrapping station.
- Live entertainment with DJ Rob on Friday night and the D’Lite Duo Saturday from 3 from 6 p.m.
- Food trucks offering a variety of food for sale.
- Mulled wine and seasonal brews available for purchase.
Sponsors include the chamber, Mercyhealth and Edge Broadband.
