A crash at the entrance of Alpine Valley on Townline Road ended in the death of a City of Racine and Raymond firefighter.

Maxwell J. Bayer, 31, was identified in a news release from the Walworth County Sheriff’s Department Friday, following the crash, which occurred on Oct. 10 at about 12:30 p.m.

According to the release, the Walworth County Communications Center received a 911 call reporting the crash on County Highway D and Townline Road, East Troy, at the entrance to Alpine Valley.

Deputies and the East Troy Fire Department arrived to find Bayer in the northwest ditch. Emergency personnel provided care and Bayer was transported to East Troy Municipal Airport for Flight for Life, but died before he could be transported.

Bayer was a 14-year member and captain of the Raymond Fire and Rescue Department. Last year, he became a Racine firefighter and EMT. He attended Waterford Union High School and Waukesha County Technical College before becoming a firefighter.
