The Village of Darien board hired a new administrator to replace Lindsey Peterson. Peterson has been with the village for three years and is leaving to become the Operating Budget Manager for Milwaukee County. Peterson worked for Milwaukee County before coming to Darien.
Abby J. Zimmerman was hired by the board and began her duties on April 15. President Jane Stiles said the decision to hire Zimmerman was based on her being a resident of the village, her leadership skills, and her involvement in the community. Stiles also said Zimmerman interviewed well and has great communication skills.
Zimmerman has been a critical care paramedic for over 18 years and has served as a lead instructor for eight years. She also has seven years served in a supervisory/management role.
Zimmerman has been the EMS Coordinator for the Mercyhealth Prehospital and Emergency Services Center since December of 2021. In that role, Zimmerman maintained emergency records, developed training programs for ambulance and rescue personnel, coordinated with school and community organizations, and instructed some classes.
Before working for Mercyhealth, Zimmerman was the Station Supervisor/WI Critical Care Coordinator/FTO Supervisor for Superior Air Ground Ambulance Service in Janesville. Before that, she was a critical care paramedic for Flight for Life in Waukesha and a critical care paramedic/Transportation Coordinator for Lakeview Critical Care EMS, LLC in Waterford.
Through all of those positions, Zimmerman listed experience that will be relevant as Administrator/Clerk/Treasurer in Darien. She has experience with billing software and other programs like Microsoft Office, maintaining daily operations, and maintaining records. She also had leadership experience.
Zimmerman received an Associate of Applied Science degree as a Paramedic Technician from Gateway Technical College in Burlington in 2008. She has numerous licenses and certifications related to her previous field and has been a member of the Darien Fire/EMS Department since 2019.
