Victims in Elkhorn double homicide identified

The City of Elkhorn police department released the names Thursday night of the victims in a double homicide in Elkhorn at the Sports Page Barr.

The two victims were identified as 37-year-old Gina Weingart and 33-year-old Emerson Weingart, both of Elkhorn. The two were husband and wife.

Earlier in the day, city police confirmed the double homicide. The Walworth County Communications Center received a 911 shortly after midnight Thursday morning for shots fired, and of a person down. When officers from both the city police and the sheriff’s department arrived, they discovered the bodies of the Weingarts inside, both fatally shot.

At a news conference this morning, law enforcement called the situation a “senseless act of violence.” Elkhorn Police Chief Joel Christensen called the situation horrific, and said it is too early in the investigation for a suspect to be identified or to determine motive from the incident. He said there is no reason to believe either of the victims was the shooter.

Christensen said that, because there is no suspect or motive at this time, people should take “reasonable” precautions to ensure their safety.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the Elkhorn Police Department at 262-723-2210. You may also remain anonymous and contact Walworth County Crime Stoppers at 262-723-2677 or electronically by using www.p3tips.com.

  1. We’re the 2 victims the only people in the bar at the time of the incident? If not, why and HOW were there no witnesses?
