The Delavan-Darien School Board recognized two students during its meeting on Monday night.
The two students were recognized for being part of the U.S. Presidential Scholars and Wisconsin State Senator programs.
Delavan-Darien Principal Jim Karedes said senior Annabelle Schluneger is one of 20 state-level nominees for the national U.S. Presidential Scholars program. She was nominated for outstanding scholarship while overcoming hurdles or challenges. Karedes said this was the first time in his D-DHS career that a student has made it this far in the program.
The next step for Schluneger is to complete the next level application. Approximately 650 students nationwide will be named semifinalists and 161 of them will be selected as U.S. Presidential Scholars and honored at a National Recognition Program in June.
Karedes also recognized Delanie-Elise Thone as a delegate to the Wisconsin State Senate Scholars Program. Admission to the program is highly competitive and Thone is one of 33 juniors and seniors who will attend a week-long program in Madison learning from state legislators how a bill becomes law and about state government.
