A crash at the intersection of Highway 11 and Highway JS July 20 left one person dead and a second seriously injured.
Bruce Wardell, Burlington, was killed in the crash. A second victim, Christopher Allen Wardell, was taken by Flight for Life to a local trauma center.
According to Robert Hall of the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office, charges against Christopher Allen Wardell for knowingly operating a vehicle while revoked resulting in death, failure to install an ignition interlock device and failure to yield right of way resulting in death have been forwarded to the District Attorney’s office.
A third person was transported to an area hospital. That name was not available by press deadline.
According to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office, 911 received a report of an automobile crash at the intersection of 11 and JS on the Burlington bypass at about 8:30 a.m.
Hall said the initial investigation showed that Christopher Allen Wardell was traveling eastbound on 11 and tried to turn left onto JS. Another vehicle, traveling westbound on 11, hit the vehicle in a T-bone crash, Hall explained.
Despite life saving measures, Bruce Wardell was pronounced dead at the scene by the Walworth County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Walworth County Sheriff’s Crash Investigation Team was called to the scene to complete the investigation.
The Sheriff’s Office responded with the Lyons Fire Department and assistance was provided by the Lake Geneva Fire Department, Rochester Fire Department, Burlington Fire Department, Burlington Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, Walworth County Medical Examiner, Walworth County Highway Department and Flight for Life.
