The No. 12 ranked University of Wisconsin- Whitewater women’s basketball team defeated 23rd-ranked UW-Oshkosh Saturday afternoon, and earned the conference’s automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Tournament for the second straight season.
UW-Whitewater, which clinched its first-ever sweep of the WIAC regular season and tournament championships, will begin its 17th appearance in the national tournament, including its 10th in the last 11 years.
UW-Whitewater (24-3) and UW-Oshkosh recorded 10 lead changes throughout last Saturday’s game at the Kachel Gymnasium. The Warhawks shot 51 percent from the floor and sank six three-pointers. The Titans had two 3-pointers.
The Warhawks will be the home team as the Midwest bracket of the NCAA Division 3 Tournament for women’s basketball takes place at the Kachel Gymnasium.
The Warhawks is scheduled to play UW-Superior at 7 p.m. It will follow a game scheduled for 5 p.m. between rose-Hulman and Gustavus Adolphus.
If the Warhawks beat UW-Superior, they will face the winner of Friday’s 5 p.m. game in round two. That game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. at Kachel Gymnasium.
