During Washington Elementary’s annual “Eagle Days” when the school’s successes are celebrated, staff and students had something extra to celebrate this year.
The school celebrated being designated as a 2017 National Blue Ribbon School on Nov. 9 during the annual celebration. The designation came from the United States Department of Education and the Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos.
“Everything we’re celebrating today is because of you and the great work you’ve done,” Whitewater Unified School District Administrator Mark Elworthy said while welcoming the audience and guests.
School Board President Casey Judd and board members Dan McCrea, Steve Ryan and Jim Stewart were also in attendance for the ceremony, as were other district staff and principals, Wisconsin Association of School Boards executive director John Ashley, State Rep. Don Vruwink (D-Milton) and State Sen. Steve Nass (R-Whitewater). Nass’ daughter and mother attended Washington. Nass’ mother also worked at Washington.
“The Blue Ribbon schools award affirm the hard work of students, educators, family, and community in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging concepts,” Grosinske said.
