The Whitewater Arts Alliance kicked off its next year with its annual meeting that featured the announcement of “Windows on Whitewater,” the 2018 Public Art Project.
The Whitewater Arts Alliance is sponsoring the public art project again for 2018. There are 50 plywood forms each year that are decorated by artists and non-artists to hang on the lampposts downtown from May until December.
There is no charge to the artists this year; they just need to pick one up at the Cultural Arts Center, 402 West Main Street, during regular exhibit hours, which are typically Thursday through Sunday when there is an exhibit in the gallery. The Cultural Arts Center will also be open Saturday Nov. 4 and Sunday Nov. 5 for a holiday art sale.
“We ask everyone to imagine looking out their window at a favorite scene in Whitewater – a building, a park, a fountain, birds, whatever – and paint that for us. We also would like a one-and-one-half-inch or two-inch border painted around the edge to serve as the window frame,” Whitewater Arts Alliance Co-President Linda Long said.
Also at the annual meeting Oct. 24, new board members were named. Long and Megan Matthews were named co-presidents. Everett Long was named vice president, Jeff McDonald was named treasurer, Sylvia Linton was named membership secretary and Audra Lange was named recording secretary. Also on the board are Christine Hayes, Daniela Porras, Mary Nevicosi, Marilyn Fuerstenberg and Mike Dugan.
New this year, the Cultural Arts Center is selling calendars featuring art by Whitewater School District children that will raise funds for the scholarship fund and mini-grants for Whitewater Unified School District art programs. The calendars will be on sale at the Cultural Arts Center during regular exhibit hours and the cost is only $10.
Membership renewals for the Whitewater Arts Alliance will be mailed out soon. The Whitewater Arts Alliance includes artists and people who enjoy art. Artists and art-advocates alike are invited to join the Whitewater Arts Alliance. Members receive regular communication from the alliance regarding art-happenings in the area.
