Walworth County Sheriff Kurt Picknell appointed Capt. Kevin Williams to serve as undersheriff Jan. 5.
Williams has more than 24 years experience with the Walworth County Sheriff’s Department. He started as a deputy sheriff patrolman and progressed up the ranks to hold the positions of training and planning sergeant, lieutenant and emergency management director and captain. H
e has been heavily involved with department training having started as a field training officer then becoming certified as an instructor in numerous “use-of-force” disciplines including firearms. He was also a member of the department’s special weapons and tactics team.
Before joining the Sheriff’s Department, Williams was a police officer in the City of Elkhorn and Village of Palmyra and has more than 29 years of law enforcement experience.
Williams has been active in the fire and emergency medical service fields as well. He is a certified firefighter and advanced emergency medical technician. He has more than 28 years experience in those fields and has been a member of the Palmyra, Lauderdale-LaGrange and Whitewater fire departments. He has held officer positions including lieutenant, first assistance chief and chief.
His education includes a Bachelor of Applied Studies in interdisciplinary studies with an emphasis in business from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and an associate degree in criminal justice through Kaplan University. Williams is also a graduate of Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command.
“Undersheriff Williams is well prepared for his new duties,” Pickness said. “His appointment will reinforce the professional delivery of law enforcement and public safety services to the citizens of Walworth County.”
