A dead dog – shot eight times and wrapped in a blanket – was found Sunday in the White River Trail parking lot of Highway NN in the Town of Geneva.
The Walworth County Sheriff’s Department responded to the lot at about 12:45 p.m. where two people had discovered a dead dog wrapped in a blanket just off the main trail.
The dog appears to be a yellow female Bullmastiff with a black face weighing about 90 pounds, according to the Sheriff’s Department. The dog appears to have suffered from eight gunshot wounds and was wrapped in a gray blanket that had white striping on the inside, according to a press release from the department.
The dog was taken to Lakeland Animal Shelter where she was scanned for a microchip, but none was found. The dog had all of her teeth, was groomed, her nails were trimmed, and the fur was matted down around the neck, which gave the impression that at one time the dog wore a collar, according to the release.
