High winds and whiteout conditions have contributed to several crashes in Walworth County, including two incidents this morning on Highway 11 that happened within hours of each other.
The first crash occurred at about 8 a.m. this morning, resulting in the Sheriff’s Department closing Highway 11 at Highway 120 until the crash site could be cleared at about 11:15 a.m.
At 11:30 a.m. the Sheriff’s Department sent out another alert to the media that Highway 11 was once again closed due to another crash.
Calls to the Sheriff’s Office for more information have not been returned as of this time, but drivers should use caution and alternate routes such as Highway 36 to avoid the area.
The Wisconsin State Patrol is warning motorists to use extreme caution on the road. Black ice is forming under blowing snow, causing crashes throughout the area, including a five-car pile up in Mukwonago and several crashes on the Interstate. Visibility is especially limited on rural highways with high winds creating whiteouts.
