Eligible Walworth County residents can apply for Community Development Block Grant funding on October 15 to get help in making a down payment on a home, install accessibility improvements such as wheelchair ramps, or receive 0 percent deferred payment loans on low-and-moderate income homes.
The Wisconsin Department of Administration (DOA) Division of Housing is awarding $15 million in CDBG for regional housing needs. These grants provide resources across Wisconsin to address affordable housing and community development.
The Southern Housing Region was awarded $2,422,000 and is represented by the counties of Walworth, Columbia, Dodge, Jefferson, Kenosha, Ozaukee, Racine, Rock, Sauk, and Washington. MSA Professional Services, Inc. (MSA) was awarded the administration of the Southern Housing Region.
Applications are available for distribution, but applications will not be accepted for Walworth County residents until Tuesday, Oct. 15. Completed application may be turned in that day only, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Walworth County Government Center, Room 114, 100 W. Walworth St., Elkhorn.
Only completed applications will be accepted. A completed application will include, but is not limited to, income information, asset & liability information and information regarding the condition of the home. Residents interested in applying should obtain an application prior to the application day in their county in order to gather all the necessary information beforehand.
If they are applying for payment assistance for a new home, they will need to figure out their budget beforehand and what other costs they will need for moving, for example, if they have a lot to pack and move it may be wise for them to look at services similar to a Man and van chelmsford company but one local to their area, so they can factor that into their expenses as they move.

The grants help provide:
• Homebuyer assistance, such as down-payment and eligible closing costs
• Funding to make housing accessibility improvements, including wheelchair ramps and wider doorways
• 0 percent deferred payment loans for housing improvements to low-and-moderate-income homes
• Owners of low-and-moderate-income rental housing can receive 0% deferred or installment loans for housing improvements
Funding for these competitive biannual awards is provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Grants were awarded based upon the age of housing in the area, the low-to-moderate income population, unemployment rate, and affordability (or how much of a person’s income has to be paid toward housing costs).
