Extension celebrates a century of educating with upcoming programs

The University of Wisconsin-Extension of Walworth County will hold a Centennial Celebration to honor 100 years of Extension service in Wisconsin on Wednesday, Oct. 17. The countywide events are open to the public to increase awareness of Extension’s programs.

Programs will include:

• 8:30-9:30 a.m. Visit the Strong Women, Strong Bones evidence-based strength training class in the basement of the Government Center, 100 W. Walworth St., Elkhorn.

• 9-10 a.m. “The Drought of 2012,” educational program on the recent drought and its effects on agriculture and food products in room 201 of the Government Center.

• 10-11 a.m. Check out the Healthy Hearts Plus walking program in room 214 of the Government Center.

• 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Lunch & Learn: register to join Walworth County UW-Extension staff for an open house event consisting of lunch and informal conversations to learn about programs and help answer questions in room 214 of the Government Center.

• 2-4 p.m. Cooking Demonstration of healthy recipes made with food pantry items at WC Food Pantry, 3252 County Highway H, Lake Geneva.

• 4:30-6 p.m. “Business Market Analysis Techniques and Downtown Applications,” presentation to assist municipalities and business organizations in learning more about market conditions and areas for growth in room 214 of the Government Center.

•   5-6 p.m. Visit the Strong Women, Strong Bones evidence-based strength training class in the basement of the Government Center.

• 6-7 p.m. Emerald Ash Borer program: educational program on the invasive pest and treatment options for ash tree owners in room 201 of the Government Center.

• 6-8 p.m. “Back to 4-H Night” program about 4-H with hands-on activities at the Walworth County Fairgrounds, Activity Center, 411 E. Court St., Elkhorn.

• 6-8 p.m. “The Art of Pressure Canning for Beginners.” Register for an opportunity to learn how to pressure can low acid food. Class fee of $15 at Badger High School, 220 South St., Lake Geneva.
