Interim Superintendent Bob Crist updated the Delavan-Darien School Board on Monday about how the district is moving forward with its strategic plan.
Crist said district staff and administrators are taking the necessary steps to ensure the plan is permeating the lives of the students every day.
Crist said the administrative team continues to discuss how to implement all parts of the plan. Recently it was decided that the district’s new mission statement and core beliefs would be displayed in every class room and meeting space in the district as a way to keep them in everyone’s mind. Some discussion has been had about adding Spanish versions alongside the English.
The administrative team meets twice a month and meets with grade-level teams regularly to make sure everyone is being held accountable for working toward the plan. To that end, administration receives copies of agendas and summaries of meetings.
Crist said accountability, trust, good collaboration and good communication are the keys to successfully implementing the plan.
Director of Pupil Services and Special Education Sara Halberg added a presentation about how the district is implementing a national program called Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports as a way to establish a positive culture and address behavior concerns. Character education and building social skills are key elements of the program.
Director of Community Relations Mike Heine presented an informational proposal to broadcast live events in the district on the district website. More research will be done and the board may consider the idea for action Oct. 8.
Delavan resident and 1975 D-DHS graduate Bryan Olson, a sales representative for J & M Displays, offered to donate a fireworks package worth several thousand dollars for the homecoming game at the high school Sept. 28. The display would also honor the 50th anniversary of Borg Stadium. There would be small displays during player introductions and the playing of the National Anthem and a larger display after the game for five to seven minutes. The board approved the donation.
The board also approved a donation by the U.S. Army of a tunnel for the football team to enter Borg Stadium through similar to what the Army donated last year.
