With no Democratic challenger on the ballot Nov. 6, Tuesday’s partisan primary resulted in the election of Walworth County’s newest district attorney.
Elkhorn lawyer Dan Necci, 33, defeated Delavan attorney Steven Harvey on the Republican ticket by a landslide, garnering 68 percent of the total votes cast, according to unofficial results released by the Walworth County Clerk’s Office.
More than 10,000 voters in the county cast ballots in the primary race, with 7,388 votes in favor of Necci, and 3,465 for Harvey.
“I am overcome by emotion when I think of all the people who have helped with this campaign,” Necci wrote on his Facebook page hours before polls closed.
In an earlier interview, Necci vowed, “Every day, and in every matter, my office will seek nothing less than truth and justice.”
Unless a write-in candidate launches a successful campaign for the November general election, Necci will succeed Phillip Koss, who stepped down from the DA’s office Aug. 1 after two decades, to take a new role in the courtroom as Walworth County Circuit Court judge.
The DA’s term begins Jan. 1.
This cannot be a good thing for our County’s Justice System. I fear the worst with such an inexperienced, shady character holding any office- especially one of such great importance.
Just because he is local did not make him the best man for the job. Most people don’t know that our county administrator lives outside Walworth county. Necci’s lack of experience sure won’t help the local boy in that important job.
