The Whitewater High School girls soccer team is on fire as of late, going 3-0 in the past week and winning each match fairly easily. Both of Whitewater’s losses this year have come by a single goal and this appears to be a team looking to make some postseason noise.
First up, the Whippets took out Jefferson 4-1 in a game split up because of the weather. Holly Hough scored in the first half, assisted by Milana Maroske, to give the Whippets the early advantage that lasted through the half.
Aly Quass then pushed through the Whippets second goal, while Rebekah Schumacher finished off the contest with two goals of her own. Additional assists during the match belonged to Quass and Maroske, who are well on their way to developing a scoring triangle worth keeping an eye on.
“Considering the wet field conditions our team played very well,” Whitewater coach Ajet Dauti after the match.
The victory pushed the Whippets to 5-2 overall and 4-2 in conference.
Big win over Clinton
Within the first minute of play, Hough had found the back of the net on a pretty feed from Quass. The rest of the game would play our similarly as the Whippets cruised to a 9-1 victory over Clinton.
Autumn Bultman scored next, assisted by Hough, who then went and got her second goal of the night just a few minutes later. Being up 3-0 within the first 10 minutes of play, Whitewater began bringing in substitutes to get some other players some action.
Just before halftime, Schumacher scored, bringing the lead to 4-0. In keeping with the theme, Quass scored just after intermission, assisted by Hough. Quass then scored again, this time on a pass from Megan Reynolds, to complete her night.
Schumacher went on to score her second goal of the night, as did Bultman, assisted this time by Miros Ayala. The ninth and final goal by the Whippets belonged to Brittney Piper.
Narrowly avoiding a shutout, Clinton scored at the tail end of the game to close out the action.
The Whippets, after this game, were 6-2 overall and 5-2 in conference play, just a few points behind Big Foot in the conference.
Easy win over Edgerton
In their third conference game of the week, the Lady Whippets defeated Edgerton 4-0 to move within a single point of Big Foot in conference play.
Hough, a sophomore, scored twice in the first half to put Whitewater up 2-0 and the team never looked back in throwing its fourth shutout of the season.
In the second half, Quass scored, continuing her impressive season. Adding the final goal was Bultman.
The Whitewater defense was again impressive, closing out on attackers and generally controlling the tempo by keeping the ball out of the deep areas on the field. Edgerton only had a few scoring chances and were denied each time.
The Whippets, after last week’s dominating performances, are now 7-2 overall (6-2 in conference).
JV team also on a roll
Last Monday, the Whitewater junior varsity girls soccer team defeated Jefferson 3-1 on goals by Selena Mendoza, Brittney Piper and Amanda Kraayvanger.
On Saturday, the team traveled to Janesville Craig to participate the Craig Invite. The Whippets won both of their contests and earned individual medals for the day.
In the first game, Whitewater defeated Janesville Craig 2-1 on goals by Piper and Bonnie Lopez.
In the second match, the Whippets defeated Janesville Parker 3-1 on goals by Piper (2) and Cristina Rodriguez.
Megan Kastern earned both wins in goalkeeping, supported by a solid defense unit comprised of Olimpia Soto, Kraayvanger and Tanya Vidales, Yetziri Reyes, Caliegh Judd and Alyssa Nelson.
Last week’s two victories improved the JV team record to 5-2 overall on the season.
