Steve Lambrechts has been elected as a member of the East Troy Community School District Board of Education, but who will occupy the other open seat on the board remains to be seen.
In Tuesday’s Spring Election incumbent Mike Zei and newcomer Chris Smith are only three votes apart with Smith leading. The unofficial numbers for the School Board election are:
Steve Lambrechts 503
Chris Smith 418
Mike Zei 415
Write-in Votes 12
Total Votes 1348
With such a close race, a recount will be automatic and if there are any late-arriving absentee ballots, the numbers could change.
“I’m glad I’m elected and I get the chance to finish some of the stuff I started before I left,” Lambrechts said.
Turnout was low for the election. Lambrechts said when he voted at about 4 p.m. on Tuesday, he was number 134 in the Town of East Troy.
“I wish the turn out was better so you get a better representation,” Lambrechts said Wednesday morning.
“No matter who comes out ahead in the count I know that we will do out best to represent East Troy,” Smith said. “I look forward to fully representing the community and voting in issues that focus on our children first.”
Zei said he wasn’t surprised by the close race, as the facility needs referendum the board has been working on has become a hot-button issue for the community.
Unofficial results for other races in the area include:
Village of East Troy trustee

Fortune A. Renucci 181
Linda Kaplan 187
Ann T. Zess 185
