Modesta M. Matelski (Duste), 85 of Elkhorn, died at Lakeland Health Care Center on Friday, Feb. 7, 2014. She was born on June 5, 1928, in LaCrosse, daughter of the late Walter and Erna Parnow. She was married to her husband Lorn on June 12, 1948, in LaCrosse, and he died in 2008.
She lived in Elkhorn for about the last 20 years and was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Elkhorn. She also enjoyed painting, sewing, and playing the organ and accordion.
She is survived by her five children, Mauree (Neil) Childress, David (Jane) Matelski, James (Nancy) Matelski, Larry (Virginia) Matelski, and Sally Vogt; 12 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. She is further preceded in death by her three brothers Bernard, Herbert, and Ewald Parnow.
Visitation will be held at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Elkhorn, from 10-11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. following the visitation. Her ashes will be buried next to her husbands at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Modesta’’s name to the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 415 Devendorf Street, Elkhorn, WI 53121.
