The Greater Whitewater Committee, Inc., recently announced that the 2nd Annual Discover Whitewater Series Run. Walk. Fun. Half Marathon, Half Marathon Relay, 5K and Fit Kid Shuffle will be held Sept. 21.
The committee also announced that the event will be a Chicago Area Runners Association (CARA) Certified Race, a designation acknowledging that the race has agreed to adhere to and uphold CARA’s Best Practices Guidelines – the highest quality, safety and comfort standards for participants in a road race.
Due to CARA’s advocacy efforts, runners in the Chicago area participate in some of the highest quality road races in the country. For more information about CARA and the guidelines, visit www.cararuns.org.
The 2nd Annual Discover Whitewater Series is focused on making Whitewater a destination of choice to visit and live and is working to drive tourism from throughout the Whitewater area including southeast Wisconsin and northern Illinois markets. Receiving the CARA designation will greatly assist in these efforts.
Two kick-off meetings for the 2014 event were held earlier in January. More than 35 people from the Whitewater community were in attendance and committed to work with the committee to reach its 2014 goals including: hosting a fun and safe race, doubling the number of runners to 1,200, and increasing the sponsorship from $62,000 to $93,000.
The Discover Whitewater Committee has gone live with online registration for the Sept. 21 event at www.RunWhitewater.com and already has 46 runners signed up for the event.
