Delavan-Darien High School celebrated its first-semester Comet Code accomplishments with an assembly Friday.
The Comet Code is the local language for PBIS, which stands for Positive Behaviors Interventions and Supports – a U.S. Department of Education initiative to help schools develop school-wide disciplinary practices.
At D-DHS, the Comet Code sets the rules and expectations for the school and focuses on promoting good behaviors and rewarding demonstrated leadership.
Over the first two quarters of the school year, 87 percent of students did not receive a single discipline referral, and 95 percent of students got one or no referrals, according to the school district.
To kick off the second semester, students can turn in their Comet cash, which they earn by displaying positive leadership and following school rules, to win raffle prizes that included a bean bag chair, ear buds, gift cards, CDs and a 20-inch flat screen TV.
